THE WORD for the WEEK
Title: “How Many Times Is It Gonna Take” 1/29/18
“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25 NKJV
In Judges 21 we find the lamentation of the Israelites who did not have a King at that time. The Israelites pursued ardent zeal against the wickedness of the men of Gibeah in the tribe of Benjamin. The general convention of the states was to gather all the people together and attack and kill their relatives -The Benjamin Tribe- for the horrible act of raping an innocent woman to death (Judges 20). The Israelites sought the Lord’s counsel and obediently battled The Benjamin tribe.
When God’s people make a habit of failing to seek God’s counsel, they end up confused about right and wrong, wisdom and foolishness.
In the end, the war ended, things settled as well as circumstances. The Benjaminites who were the cause of the war suffered so much. The Israelites who had not fallen in the war lamented over their fallen relatives yet went make to business as usual and lived in peace. In summary: We need God. We are born to have a thirst for God and the flow of His Holy spirit lives and feeds in us like running living water runs to feed green grasses. This last verse in the last chapter of Judges set the stage for the arrival of God’s chosen King, David. Remember, King David is the man after God’s own heart. David would not only seek to do right in the Lord’s eyes but was a good King that lead the Israelites only after seeking God’s counsel.
It’s a dangerous thing for people to do what’s right based on their own sight. How Many Times Is It Gonna Take. Keep God’s commandments and be Blessed beyond measure.
