THE WORD for the WEEK

Title: “Got Him and Need Him”                                                     1/21/18

  • “On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the scripture declares, Rivers of living water will flow from his head.” John 7:37-38   NLT

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come”. Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.  Rev 22:17 NLT

In Chapter 7 of John, we find Jesus at the last day of The Festival of Shelters or Tabernacles which was one of seven holidays that the Israelites celebrated. Jews during this time celebrated these festivals from then up to this very day. John, the apostle who followed Jesus while he was physically alive recorded this event above. This “climax of festival” was a special celebration involving the whole family; it taught members of all ages about God’s nature in general and more specifically, God’s deliverance of the Israelites from slavery which caused their renewed commitment to God. Back during the Israelites times, the Holy Spirit of God visited the people yet left the people from time to time. But, in the New Testament and also today, The Holy Spirit comes upon believers and stays and resides in them. In the scripture above, the “Holy Spirit” is referred to as living water. The Holy Spirit stays and lives and empowers each believer. The Holy Spirit lives within us, He comforts us, He leads us, He protects us, He strengthens us, He prospers us, He heals us, He leads us in to all truth…That, my friend, tells me: He lives in my heart, so “I Got Him and I Need Him!”

The Holy Spirit is the primary meaning of an invisible creation of God which is transcendent (everywhere existing), eminent (near to us) and all Holy deserving all respect. In the beginning, God created the heaven and earth which was without form and dark. Yet in that beginning, The Holy Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and then there was light. Why? God said so. (Gen 1:1-4). In the ending book of the bible, it is the Holy Spirit that says “Come” anyone who believes because when you have faith the Holy Spirit lives in you and you realize “I Need Him and I Got Him” inside me!  Dr. Dowe

The Message bible says it like this (and you can put your name where Dr. Dowe’s name is: “Dr. Dowe walks in step with God; her path blazed by God, she’s happy. If she stumbles, she’s not down for long; God has a grip on her hand.”  Ps 37:23
